Terroir is a full service, fine wine retail company founded by Rudy Kurniawan and Paul
Wasserman. It is located in Los Angeles close to the Fairfax Farmers' Market district. It
will be fully operational in the first quarter of 2008.
If we do plan to focus more particularly on
the wines of Burgundy, Bordeaux,
Champagne and California, we will offer a
substantial program of futures and pre-
arrivals for important wines from all wine
producing regions. We will offer these
futures and pre-arrivals at nationally
competitive pricing.
We will carry an astounding selection of
carefully sourced old and rare wine. These
wines will be offered at auction value,
which is generally below retail. Our pricing
will be transparent, that is to say tiered to
reflect quality and certainty of provenance.
We will offer consulting and personal
shopping services. We will not simply
peddle other people’s opinions but our own
which is rooted in unusually broad first
hand experience.
With the exception of our selection of
everyday wines for immediate drinking, all
wines will be stored and staged for
shipping at optimum cellar conditions (55˚
and 70% humidity).
Our software system and website are
designed to maximize our customers’
experience. Features include: near real-time
inventory, inventory search engine with
expanded search options, regular
automated notifications of our customers’
account status with wines yet to be
delivered by Terroir, password protected
access to customer history, wish list
capabilities, email offers, searchable tasting
note database with recent reviews of
important older wines, in-depth editorials
of upcoming vintages, etc…
Several of the truly exceptional events
organized by the founders are well
documented. Naturally, Terroir will
continue to hold such events on a regular
basis.
Don't let out commitment to collectors, to
excellent service, or our love and
knowledge of rare wine scare you away.
Collectors are savvy, they know their
wines AND they know their prices. In
other words it is our vocation to practice
competitive pricing. Does that mean we
will be the lowest on everything, all the
time? No. If chains want to make $1 on a
bottle of famous champagne to get you in
the door, we're certainly not going to
follow. What competitive pricing means is
that when you walk into Terroir, you will
not have to watch your back.
Though our building is large, our actual
licensed sales floor is small. At first we
found that annoying, but after a little
thought, we decided it was a blessing: it
forces is us not to try to be everything to
everybody.
What you will find on Terroir's sales floor
are only the wines we really believe in:
terroir-driven classic regional wines. What
does that mean? Well... come in and we'll
talk about it. But if you need to know
before you drive over let's just say that
this type of wine is usually found in
France, Italy and Germany. Expect depth
there. But we will also carry a respectable
selection of boutique offerings from
California. Since our warehouse will be
full of collectibles, we will keep the wines
on the sales floor realistic, $7 to $77.
We hope to see you soon.
